Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Community Service is to promote civic responsibility and service-learning by encouraging student involvement in meaningful and reciprocal service to the community.

Volunteerism and community service has long been a Georgia Tech tradition. As a unit of the Division of Student Affairs, The Office of Community Service (OCS) sustains this tradition by serving as a clearinghouse and resource for community service and service-learning initiatives at Georgia Tech. Throughout its long history, Georgia Tech has focused its efforts on preparing students to use their innovative skills and strong work ethic to solve real-world problems and improve the lives of people in Atlanta, United States, and around the globe. The Institute’s mission emphasizes lifelong learning, leadership, and service. Furthermore, the strategic plan recognizes Tech’s "diverse educational culture that educates leaders who are concerned with the welfare of their communities and environments". Recently, President Clough spoke of community service in his 2002 State of the Institute Address by stating, "...the most significant thing Georgia Tech does is educate students who see their chosen professions through the prism of environmental sustainability, globalism, civic responsibility, and who have the skills to become leaders."
